Job Summary/Basic Function

Job Summary:
The faculty and staff of the Department of Mathematics at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, are seeking one or more instructors of mathematics, pending funding. Lamar University is implementing Texas State HB 2223, integrating college-level and developmental mathematics courses into an effective core pre-requisite pathways model. These instructors will support, participate in and enhance the development of this program. Lamar University faculty teach with a variety of pedagogical techniques. Instructors will have the opportunity to discuss teaching with other faculty who teach in these different methods.

Applicants must have proven record of excellence in teaching first-year mathematics pathways courses. These include introductory statistics, college algebra, pre-calculus or mathematics for liberal arts students. Instructors may be asked to teach a combination of face-to-face and online
courses. Preference will be given to individuals who can also teach core pre-requisite courses for students who are not college-ready in mathematics as the department extends its core prerequisite
courses and pathways models to improve student retention and success.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:
A successful candidate will hold at least a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics,
Mathematics Education or closely related field, including at least 18 hours of graduate level mathematics courses; a PhD is strongly preferred. Successful applicants must demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, gender identity, cultural, disability, religious, and ethnic backgrounds of students, as well as
sensitivity to historically underrepresented groups, and groups who may have experienced discrimination.
