Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Office of the Provost, and in support of campus enrollment goals, the Executive Director provides vigorous leadership of all Student Financial Aid and Scholarship operations, through direction and management of a multi-million dollar budget which ensures financial stability for endowed funds and educational access for Lamar financial aid recipients. The successful candidate is responsible for policy development, implementation, and long-range planning that advances the university’s goals, mission and vision. He/she designs systems that open new opportunities for equitable access to a Lamar University education. He/she develops strategies to effectively deploy university fiscal resources and personnel to achieve these goals. In addition, the Executive Director creates an environment that promotes and celebrates a positive customer service experience. Further, the Executive Director maintains excellent relationships with the communities of interest impacted by in this position. The Executive Director provides leadership to the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Academic Services, with approximately 25 staff, and two direct reports, and works closely with various entities across campus.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and implements a campus undergraduate scholarship program to meet campus enrollment goals.

Creates multi-year funding strategies and oversees annual funding requests from the campus.

Determines policies for procurement and distribution of all forms for student financial aid and utilizes a broad span of knowledge to implement these policies. This includes developing projections and justifications for allocating multiple sources of financial aid.

Provides general direction to Information Technology staff with regard to the functional needs of the unit. Monitors trends in software for financial aid and scholarship processing and works collaboratively to ensure that IT tools supporting the offices are effective.

Directs functions of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships such as establishing operational policies and procedures, organizing and managing the Financial Aid and Scholarship staff.

Consults with managers and sets priorities to allocate resources. Ensures that students who need financial assistance receive appropriate help.

Directs the dissemination of information both digitally and in print on scholarships and financial aid services to faculty, staff, and students, current and prospective, as well as parents.

Remains current on University, State and Federal rules, regulations and policies as they relate to higher education in general, scholarships and financial aid in particular.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of supervisory experience, with a Master’s in Business Administration preferred.

Leadership experience in creating innovative approaches to utilizing student aid programs in support of campus enrollment goals.

Proven extensive experience with higher education policies, processes, and procedures related to budget, accounting, human resources, and student services.

An understanding of Lamar University, its history, and its mission is preferred, specifically in relationship to the higher education market within which it resides or equivalent institutions with similar missions and educational contexts.

General knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding student financial aid.

Experience with an ability to understand details of laws, statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures and apply them to factual situations.

Extensive quantitative analysis and resource management skills.

Ability to maintain security of student records in strict accordance with confidentiality rules established by and for the State of Texas and the University.

Outstanding communication skills demonstrated by the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of diverse people, and parents as well as excellent public speaking skills.

Dedication to the concept of service and commitment to student and staff diversity.
