Job Summary/Basic Function

Job Summary:
The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University seeks highly qualified applicants for the tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Education. The Music Education faculty member is responsible for teaching all undergraduate and graduate courses relating to elementary music education and concepts in music education. Additionally, the position requires the coordination of our OAKE-endorsed summer Kodály program. Non-instructional duties include coordinating the music education program, acting as the departmental liaison to the College of Education for matters related to curriculum requirements and development, conducting regular assessment reports for the university and the state, and supervising the department’s clinical (student) teachers.

Position Specifications in Addition to the Above Described:
• Advise undergraduate and graduate music education majors as needed.
• Recruitment of qualified music educators for the graduate music education degree, especially our Master of Music Education with Kodály Certification program.
• Observe the department’s clinical (student) teachers.
• Serve as the music department’s representative on the university’s Educator Preparation Council.
• Work in close cooperation with the Field Experience Office to place clinical (student) teachers in an appropriate learning environment.
• Other research and service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in music education required. Doctorate or ABD in music education required for a tenure-earning appointment. State-level teaching certification and experience as a music educator at the primary or secondary level required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification and experience as a Kodály Educator strongly preferred. Collegiate-level teaching experience preferred.
