Job Summary/Basic Function

Job Description:
The Division of Distance Learning needs an Instructional Designer or E-Learning Specialist to work with online course development efforts within the Division and under the general direction of the Director of Instructional Design. The Associate Instructional Designer, must be able to research and assess online educational needs and develops online programs, courses, materials, technology, and learning approaches accordingly.

Job duties and responsibilities for the Associate Instructional Designer includes:
• Design and facilitate workshops to support faculty and staff in quality assessment, evaluation mechanisms, threaded discussions, multimedia and other digital resources in new and existing online and hybrid courses.
• Responsible for assisting faculty and staff with new and emerging technology strategies in delivery of synchronous and asynchronous learning activities.
• Collaborate with Director and Chair to conduct a needs assessment and usability analysis to support course redesign and enhancements.
• Develop a systematic instructional design model and components for developing technology rich learning environments
• Play a key role in the course production process, working with faculty, administrators and Blackboard support to ensure course revision and development deadlines are met.
• Under limited supervision, researches, writes and/or edits material consulting with faculty as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for appointment as an Associate Instructional Designer:
• Requires Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related area field.
• Less than 3 years as an instructional designer/trainer in an education or related environment.
• Demonstrated technology skills and ability – LMS management, online presentation development, graphical layout, digital audio and video, HTML coding and editing.
• Effective communication, collaboration, team-building and project management skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize projects and activities
• Experience with distance learning programs
• Familiarity with common learning management systems
• Understanding of pedagogical principles of instructional systems
• Ability to apply existing and emerging educational technologies in online and hybrid courses.
• In depth understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Experience providing professional development workshops
• Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous tasks
• Advance technology skills

Minimum Qualifications for appointment as an E-Learning Specialist:
• Associate degree required.
• One-Three years’ computer experience with Microsoft Office applications and other productivity software.
• Effective communication and project management skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Basic familiarity with web server technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for an Associate Instructional Designer:
• Knowledge of accessibility to ensure online courses fully compliant to the laws and guidelines
• Knowledge of standards such as Quality Matters
• Knowledge of graphic design
• Experience with design and development of instructor videos
• Experience with conducting research in the area of emerging instructional design technologies and methodologies, especially related to online education

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree preferred.
• Experience in the field of higher educational.
• Knowledge and experience with e-learning technology.
• Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and/or web production, digital audio and video editing, HTML coding and editing.
