Position Description:
Responsible for providing advisement and support to the Greek letter organizations at Lamar University associated with the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Council (CPC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), the Greek honor society Order of Omega, and the Greek Council. Will provide assistance, upon request, to the advisor of National PanHellenic Council (NPHC). Will also provide assistance with the student conduct and mediation resolution process.

The Associate Director has direct reporting responsibility to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students. The position is a member of the Setzer Student Center and will have a reporting line to Director.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
 Develops and maintains quality educational programs for fraternity & sorority community members focusing on leadership, risk management and risk-reduction education, sexual misconduct education, community service initiatives and membership recruitment.

 Collaborate with students, faculty, staff and alumni in the planning, development, and implementation of activities and programs that support and advance the foundational values upon which Greek-letter organizations are based.

 Works in collaboration with the Faculty and Chapter Advisors to the fraternity and sorority chapters. May serve as Advisor to one or more coordinating councils.

 Advises the Greek Council which provides a forum for discussion between all four councils. The Greek Council, composed of members of LU’s twenty fraternities and sororities, coordinates each year’s Greek Life programs, such as Executive Officers’ Training, Risk Management Training, Greek Advisors Meeting, Greek Retreat, Greek Week, & the Greek Annual Awards Banquet.

 Directs the coordination of the formal and informal recruitment and membership intake for fraternities and sororities, serving as a liaison to international and national offices, chapter advisors, faculty advisors, alumni and members of the university community.

 Provide recommendations with the development and monitoring of departmental budget.

 Initiates and/or support educational programming including, but not limited to, drug/alcohol awareness, career preparation, hazing prevention and sexual misconduct.

 Provide assistance with tailgating and Athletic events involving fraternities and sororities.

 Works with appropriate stakeholders in expansion process to increase fraternities and/or sorority chapters in the Greek community.

 Prepares and maintains statistical information on involvement and academic achievement for fraternities and sororities.

 Assists in the planning, coordination and support of the fraternities and sorority chapters involvement in New Student Orientation Programs, Housing Move-In Day, De-Stress Week, Homecoming, LU Preview Day, The Summit, Big Red Mania, Sexual Assault Awareness Week, The BIG Event, and any large-scale student engagement programs and/or events

 Assists with Student Conduct by serving as a hearing officer for the Code of Student Conduct violations, developing, preparing and providing training to the hearing panels and serve under the direction of the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students regarding the Code of Student Conduct.

 Maintains the Fraternity & Sorority communication materials (i.e., brochures, website content, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree Required in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field.

Experience: Mimimum of 3 years experience working in a university/college setting in student affairs and working collaboratively with other administrators, faculty and students.

Membership in a fraternity or sorority is essential. Strong preference is given to individuals who have had direct experience working/advising fraternities/sororities and advising inter-fraternity/sorority councils.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills, ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and attention to detail.
• Experience training and developing student leaders, individually and in groups.
• Ability to identify and develop leadership opportunities for students.
• Demonstrated experience with and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
• Strong critical thinking and creative and effective problem-solving skills.
• Ability to function within a team environment and collaborate with others.
• Capability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and attention to detail.
• Ease in working with all University constituents, including faculty, staff, alumni, students and their families.
• Excellent verbal, written and technological communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and evenings as needed.
