General Description:
The purpose of this position is to administer financial aid programs for students enrolled in Lamar University’s Online Programs. This includes staff and resource management, reports, program reviews, compliance with university and funding agency requirements and student financial aid applications and counseling per online terms. This position will have direct supervisory authority for all Financial Aid Specialist Sr. positions assigned to LU Online Programs in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Additional duties include reviewing student files for award processing, answering questions on the financial aid application process, explaining policies and procedures, working with the default management program, assisting with student orientations for incoming Lamar University students, making presentations as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid, assisting students and parents as needed, maintaining strict compliance with NCAA rules regarding student-athletes, and other necessary duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
* Assist with the supervision of assigned personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution.
*Overseeing all facets of the daily operation of the online programs financial aid unit, ensuring compliance with University, state and federal laws, and institutional policies and regulations.
* Reviews and adjusts awards for students in online programs.
* Manages computer databases and analyzes, designs, and produces specialized statistical reports, and manages Banner Xtender electronic scanning.
* Assists in performing financial aid advising for qualifying students enrolled in Lamar University’s online programs.
* Serves as a financial aid liaison by speaking and/or giving presentations to special groups.
* Serves as a financial aid liaison between the bursar or loan lender and the student.
* Is the direct liaison between Financial Aid and Lamar University’s online program staff.
* Develops and maintains a positive customer service orientation.
* Must be a self-starter.
* Must be a critical thinker.
* Assist with other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree is required with a major in business preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of directly related financial experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be achieved.

* Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
* Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the provision of student financial aid.
* Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
* Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
* Knowledge of Lamar University’s Online Programs and Traditional Academic Programs.
* Must be able to maintain and retain access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

* Skill in using computers and related software.
* Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
* Skill in training staff including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
* Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial information.
