Position Summary Information

Job Summary/Basic Function

• Provides leadership for library systems and actively participates in the planning process within the academic library setting
• Coordinates the integrated library system (SirsiDynix Symphony) for the Gray Library serving Lamar University and the Lamar Institute of Technology, plus the Ron E. Lewis Library at Lamar State College-Orange
• Manages a Systems Department of two full-time staff
• Manages multiple systems that support library functions and Web resources in coordination with system vendors, e.g. OCLC, Ebsco Discovery Service (EDS), ILLiad, and Springshare products
• Works collaboratively with the Information Technology Services team of the University to ensure library systems adhere to University IT policies and standards for secure, efficient and sustainable service delivery
• May be expected to be on call nights and weekends for systems issues as needed
• Provides statistical reporting and recommendation of development on library systems matters
• Contributes to library services and initiatives
• Participates in university and library committees
• Shares in collection development duties

Minimum Qualifications

• A graduate degree in library or information science from an American Library Association-accredited institution (or appropriate graduate degree as defined by the position) and a second graduate degree

• Trends in information technology as related to libraries
• Library products and services integration
• Web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, XML
• Cataloging principles, including MARC and RDA

•Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
•Familiarity with authentication protocols

• Three years recent professional experience in an academic library or equivalent
•Experience in management of library technology, systems and architecture
•Experience scripting or programming in at least one language, such as PHP, Perl, JavaScript, SQL

• As faculty members, librarians are expected to participate in professional development, attend relevant conferences and workshops, publish and present at conferences, and participate in campus governance
