Job Summary/Basic Function

Summary: The College of Education and Human Development at Lamar University invites applications for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Health and Kinesiology (HKIN). The department offers B.S. degrees in Exercise and Sport Science; Kinesiology (Teacher Certification) and Health.
At the graduate level a M.S. in Kinesiology and a Master of Public Health (MPH) are offered. The chairperson is responsible for the administration of the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, including: fiscal management and advancement; long-range planning; curriculum review and development; personnel recruitment, development and evaluation; and oversight of the teaching, laboratories and practicum and internships. The chairperson shall encourage high quality teaching, research and service and advocate for the resources needed to sustain the department’s mission. The chairperson shall develop partnerships within and outside the university as well as promote the department’s programs to alumni, business, government agencies and other educational institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree with academic achievement that merits appointment to the Chair position and the ability to teach in one of the program areas within the Department of Health and Kinesiology. Preference will be given to a candidate with tenure and administrative experiences. Applicants must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, administrative colleagues, alumni and professional communities served by the unit. Applicant must have successful experiences in teaching and administration; a record of appropriate accomplishments in research; and, preferably, demonstrated experience in grant,contract and project activities. The prospective chairperson must demonstrate the ability and willingness to provide vision and leadership for a diverse department.
